How To Recover From A Cold Quickly!

I came down with a cold recently, but rather than taking the usual time of a week to feel like a human again, it only took me 3 days, and within 4 days I was back to normal! This has never happened before!

As you know, we always swear by using natural remedies for any ailments that we suffer, and this time was no exception. So I thought I’d share the simple things I did in the hope that it may be beneficial to others.

In addition to 2 ½ days of rest, there were 6 things I did on days 2 and 3 of the cold that seemed to miraculously cure it (two of which were different to what I usually do, leading me to believe I’ve found the key to a speedy recovery!).

Without further ado, here are the six things I did:

Bionorica Sinupret

These are the natural decongestants that I use, and I think they’re amazing!

They work effectively against cold/flu symptoms using an all-natural combination of the five medicinal plants cowslip, gentian, common sorrel, elder and vervain.

But unlike normal decongestants, they not only relieve the symptoms but also fight against the pathogens to help you recover quicker. I highly recommend them! I took two tablets 3 times a day, starting at the end of day 1 and finishing on day 4.

Sambucol

Elderberries are packed with antioxidants and nutrients such as Vitamin C and Fiber. Studies have shown that elderberries improve immune function and help to fight off/prevent flus and colds. How? They contain a protein which is able to stop a virus’ ability to replicate, meaning it either prevents infection, or if already infected it helps to fight it quicker. I took about 20 mls of Sambucol Extra on each day of my cold.

 

Vitamin C gel

Vitamin C is one of the best immune boosters, but getting enough can be a challenge. Liposomal Vitamin C by Altrient is the supplement that I took, and it’s great because it’s in gel form meaning that it’s very quickly absorbed by the body. Some other liquid vitamins can be inhibited by stomach acid, but this one is protected against that, meaning the nutrients make it to where they need to be – directly into the cells! I took this twice- on day 1 and day 2.

 

Garlic

This is the hero of food and the most effective immune system booster that exists! Garlic contains a compound called alliin, and when it’s crushed or chopped it turns into a powerful substance called allicin.

For various reasons, most of us have stress/inflammation in our bodies which cause our immune systems to weaken. Enter garlic, which studies have shown boosts the immune system to help prevent flu and colds!

It needs to be consumed raw in order to have the full effects, as allicin is destroyed when it’s heated.

Try having it on toast with butter and parsley, or with honey. Or try mixing with olive oil and herbs and dipping bread into it. I had one clove of raw garlic on day 2.

 

Steaming

I do this by putting boiling water (from the kettle) into a bowl with a tiny bit of cold water, a few drops of Nahrin Herbal Oil Plus (this is my miracle cure), and then putting a towel over it, then put my head under the towel, over the bowl to breathe in the herbal infused steam for about 10 minutes a time.

This incredible oil is a blend of 33 essential oils and 7 plant extracts. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth every penny in my opinion (and it lasts ages)!

The antiviral properties will help to kill the cold virus, and it really helps to relieve pain. (As an added bonus steaming is also beneficial for the skin and can help with acne!)

Herbal Oil

As mentioned above, the Nahrin Herbal Oil Plus is my new secret weapon against colds!

Every night and morning of the cold I put coconut oil on my skin and then applied a few drops of this oil to my hands and rubbed it all over my neck, upper chest, behind my ears, and on my forehead (just a patch between/above the eyebrows).

This is something I haven’t done before so for that reason I think this was what gave me the main boost to recovering so quickly!
